Sometimes a tree really does have to come out. It is dead, it is unsafe, it is lifting a wall, or it is simply the wrong tree in the wrong place. We take trees down safely, including in gardens with no room to fell them in one piece.

Straight felling

Where there is space to drop a tree in one, this is the quickest and cheapest way to do it. We assess the lean, the wind, and what is underneath, then fell into a clear area.

Sectional dismantling

Most Barnsley gardens do not have room to fell a mature tree whole. Instead we climb it and take it down in sections, lowering pieces on ropes so nothing lands on a fence, a greenhouse or a conservatory. It takes longer than felling but it is often the only safe option.

Dangerous and storm damaged trees

Split limbs, leaning trunks and trees that have come down against a building need dealing with quickly. Tell us what has happened and we will tell you how fast we can get there.

Conifers, leylandii and overgrown boundaries

Rows of conifers that have been left to run are one of the most common jobs we do. They can be reduced, or taken out completely along with the stumps if you want the boundary back.

What happens to the stump

Felling leaves a stump. We can grind it out in the same visit, which is usually cheaper than booking it separately. See stump grinding and removal.

Permissions

Tree Preservation Orders and conservation areas apply to removal as well as pruning, and removing a protected tree without consent is an offence. We will raise it if we think your tree is covered.

Where we work

We are based in Barnsley and cover South and West Yorkshire, including Wombwell, Hoyland, Royston, Cudworth, Darfield, Worsbrough, Penistone, Dodworth and Mapplewell. See the full list of areas we cover, or call and ask.

Frequently asked questions

How much does tree removal cost in Barnsley?

It depends on the size, the species, the access and whether it can be felled whole or has to be dismantled. Quotes are free.

Can you remove a tree in a small back garden?

Yes. We dismantle in sections and lower the pieces, so no room to fell is not a problem.

Do you remove the stump as well?

We can grind it out in the same visit, which usually works out cheaper than a separate booking.

How long does it take to take a tree down?

A straightforward fell can be a couple of hours. A large sectional dismantle can take a full day or more.

Do I need permission to remove a tree?

You do if it is protected by a Tree Preservation Order or in a conservation area. Check with Barnsley Council, and we will flag it if we think it applies.

What happens to the wood?

It goes with us, or we can cut and leave logs if you have a burner.

Can you take out a row of leylandii?

Yes, that is a regular job. We can reduce them or remove them and the stumps entirely.

My tree came down in a storm. Can you come out quickly?

Storm and safety work gets priority. Call and we will tell you the soonest we can be there.

Will your machinery damage my garden?

We board over soft ground and work off ropes where access is tight. Some marking is possible and it recovers.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes, for letting agents, landlords, schools, builders and grounds teams.
